BitCoin. You can’t go a day without hearing about it in the media. On this page I plan to learn a bit about it and possibly simplify it down for the layman to understand. At this stage I truly know so little so this is not a post where you will be learning from someone who knows. However I will aim to figure some things and keep this page updated as I go along.

From bitcoinsimplified.com : Bitcoin was invented as a peer-to-peer system for online payments that does not require a trusted central authority. Since its inception in 2008, Bitcoin has grown into a technology, a currency, an investment vehicle, and a community of users.

Bitcoin is based on Blockchain. From Wikkipedia : Blockchain is a distributed database that maintains a continuously-growing list of records called blocks secured from tampering and revision. Each block contains a timestamp and a link to a previous block. In the bitcoin case, every compatible client is able to connect to the network, send new transactions to it, verify transactions, and take part in the competition to create new blocks.

Some links I am looking at:

These are some big players in the space.

http://www.coindesk.com – probably the first site I came across. i think it is an aggregate of bitcoin markets

https://www.cryptocompare.com/ -

https://lisk.io/ - A Java script block chain and also a app builder of some sort

BTC Widgets :

Widgets are noting more than little code applets that run on my website but get data from a server from a bigger web site. They are kind of a free ad for the people that made the widget but they also give my site a little movement.

Ethereum :

https://www.ethereum.org/ - The second biggest blockchain after bitcoin. Offers the same benefits – decentralization – smart contracts. The ethereum website describes blockchain as “an enormously powerful shared global infrastructure that can move value around and represent the ownership of property. “nicely put.

Interesting article on medium lists just how many projects there are building off ethereum.

https://augur.net/ - Of course the one that caught my eye details with predicting future events. Will keep my eye on it.

Code Examples

We are developers here on this site so lets looks at some code examples :

Not 100 sure what a wallet is but it stores Bitcoins. Why do you need a wallet ? - well you could keep you coins in an account, like a bank account, but if the bank gets robbed, and remember its the wild west here - literally - then you have lost them. Thus you might be better off keeping you coins in your own wallet. Below the main one I know about. There can be problems with keeping them in your own wallet though. Like loosing them.

Some blog posts I like :

Um ...

https://rarepepewallet.com/ - maybe a way to learn about Wallets if you can buy a bit coin

Oh wow - now this is some good sh@t. Of course I came across the link on jhipster:
